Field Day is ham radio’s open house. Every June, more than 40,000 hams throughout North America set up temporary transmitting stations in public places to demonstrate ham radio’s science, skill and service to our communities and our nation. It combines public service, emergency preparedness, community outreach, and technical skills all in a single event. Field Day has been an annual event since 1933, and remains the most popular event in ham radio.
[Update June 23 7:30pm] Due to the consistent forecast for thunderstorms, including possible severe thunderstorms, The RARC Field Day event has relocated to the City of Rochester EOC in Fire Station #2 (2185 Wheelock Dr NE, Rochester, MN). This was not taken lightly and is to preserve the safety of everyone participating and attending.
The plan is to still operate two stations – one indoors and another in the ARES trailer in the parking lot.
Please keep up with the changing situation on the RARC Groups.io reflector.
2023 Field Day will be held at Chester Woods Park in the overflow lot which is just off the Swimming Beach parking lot (see map below). Camping is also available at the park if you’d like to do so. The main event starts at 1:00pm Saturday and runs through the night until Sunday at 3:00pm.
To put this together and be ready, we will need help setting up equipment on Friday and Saturday, then help to take it all back down again on Sunday. Again this year Drew will be making his BBQ, so please put your name down if you plan to be there so we make sure to have enough food available.
Please see the sign-up sheet for operating schedules, dinner, setup and tear down help.
This year’s coordinator is Taylor (WB0RSJ). Please keep an eye here and on the RARC Groups.IO reflector for more information.
