Ares Meeting on the 19th

VP report: Program is picnic! Annual picnic in August, bring appetite. KOA Marion/Rochester campsite. VHF stop distance * S-Meter / watts for score, 4 stops ~1mile apart each. Swapmeet also, getting rid of last of the storage gear.

Mayo DSTAR repeater – port was failing, Pat fixed that one and a new one is failing now. Status page shows OK + Updated (gateway to internet). IP Conflict resolved. Repeater/Gateway server might need work still. Showing up with frequency on APRS, showing up as an ‘A’ side, should be ‘B’ side.

County EOC; remaining radio set up.

ARES Trailer – new tables ready, need to install. Check CO detector in trailer.

Club HW sales – Onalaska hamfest went well. Not renewing our storage rental, might need to move stuff.

Looking to sell some older equipment; Military mast, beams, Icom 718.

125Live discussion; Parts to get vertical antenna working (request for funds in new business).

Field Day: AC0W pictures published in newsletter!

Contesting: NAQP RTTY contest and NAQP SSB contest coming up, check contesting section of newsletter for details!

Education: Maple Grove still going strong!

JM Radio Club: Quick request – AA3ME: Pat W0BM invested in HF radio kits, looking for people to mentor soldering this fall 3:45-5PM

ARES: Trailer ants! ARES group meeting on the 19th.

125Live: Moved the date by 1 week. 19th July. Open to 125Live social members; how to stay connected during a disaster. Basics in grid-down considerations and communications. Think the balun for their antenna is bad. Up to $250 expense for new business to get new balun for this.

Events:

Winona county fair 7/9 Wednesday from 4pm-8pm ARES demonstration, public service, our repeater traffic activity

Plymouth swap meet, 8AM-12PM : Magic Trailer event, free to attend, $5 to sell.

FEMA mock drill on 7/9, New Madrid fault simulation. ARES involvement and EOC, using WinLink sending forms to FEMA (Field Situation Report) W0STV + Jacobson and Olmsted EOC.

KOA equipment estate sale – Will square up, $175 check for 50/50 split.

W0STV renewed W0MXW license, and trustee has been switched over.

Old Business:

Gamehaven Ham Station – Tabled for now, need to seek interest.

Field Day: Scores being tabulated. Weather was good! Preliminary score, 278 contacts + multipliers + youth operators + Bonus points. Logging went well.

New Business:

125Live Balun ($250 limit), W0STV proposed, AA0CN seconded, approved.

August Picnic: interest in catered? Pulled-pork? Proposed by Pat, to investigate Famous Daves and HyVee.

Thinking to sell gear; Mosely beams and military mast. Think about replacing with 12′ boom TA33Jr ($700) + Rotator + 150ft control cable + coax. Plan to use aluminum trailer tower (does Winona use it still? Its primary use is State 900MHz fill-ins).

Sharon might have JK antenna that she might not have a use for + rotor:

Thrust Bearing: Yaesu G-065 $45.00 ($60 new at HRO)

Tower: Glen Martin 1832 roof tower $650.00 (17.5 ft when assembled. This is used but in like-new condition if you can find one)

Sell the military mast: Proposed, seconded, passed. AA0CN started bidding at $1!

Selling Icom 718 HF radio – Proposal to buy two new Yaesu FT-710AESS radios. Need 12V power supplies, we can find monitors.

KF0S proposal: buy 2x 710AESS, 2x power supplies, sell IC-718. W0STV seconds. Motion passed.

Field Day: Alex and Drew operating out of ARES trailer. They got licenses online, Eli also.
Bill Osler Youth Education grant to be amended to cover online test fees, for youth (<21YO) residing in Olmsted County or Dodge County for first-time licensees, in addition to in-person test sessions as previously approved. Retroactive for all of 2024-2025. W0STV motioned, Waldemar seconded, approved (amended amendment).
