RARC Support of Area School Stations

The Rochester Amateur Radio club has been actively involved in getting young people interested in amateur radio. Club members have been working with Rochester area schools, students, and parents to help establish local school stations.

The RARC has donated equipment, and books to school stations, and has offered assistance in helping students to get on the air. Classes have been offered to help students obtain their amateur radio licenses, and club members have assisted students in setting up equipment at their school stations.

"The Future of Amateur Radio rests with our ability to recruit the next generation into the hobby and train them to be first class operators.”
Scott Wright, KØMD

In October, 2007 the RARC helped establish a school amateur radio station at Schaeffer academy in northeast Rochester. The RARC, along with donated equipment from retired ham operator DR James Garber, established the station to assist the school's four student operators: Bobby KCØNXB, Ashley KØAEW, Katie KØKEW and Sarah WØSMW, and other students who are interested in amateur radio. The school club is advised by Scott Wright, KØMD and has as its trustees: Scott KØMD, Bill NØNUV and Pat NØADQ.

The RARC is committed to developing cost effective ways to make ham radio more fun and meaningful for students, and in finding ways to get teens and pre-teens interested in our hobby and motivated to become youth radio operators.
