Purpose

The purpose of the Rochester Amateur Radio Club, Inc. (RARC) is to advance general interest and welfare of amateur radio, to promote radio knowledge and scientific experimentation, to promote cooperation and exchange of information between members, to conduct club programs, and to provide public service support for community activities.

Operation of the corporation is governed by the RARC bylaws.

Membership

RARC membership is open to all licensed radio amateurs and those actively engaged in a class leading to an amateur radio license. Associate membership is open to all other persons who are interested in supporting and promoting the purposes and activities of the club.

To join the RARC club as a new member, please fill out and submit the Membership Application. You can also print out the form and mail completed form to RARC, P.O. Box 1, Rochester, MN 55903-0001, along with your dues payments.. If there are any questions on joining the club, please contact a KCØGND, Membership Chairman.

Meetings

RARC club meetings are held each month on the second Tuesday of the month. The club meetings are held at 7:00 p.m. in Room HS 131, Health Sciences, at the UCR/RCTC Campus, in Rochester. Visitors are welcome to attend the meetings.

Dues

The Rochester Amateur Radio Club is a federal 501(c)(3) tax exempt and Minnesota nonprofit corporation with operating funds obtained entirely from members's dues and donations from organizations and individuals.

Annual dues for a Individual RARC membership is $ 25.00. Family memberships, for multiple members of the same family, are $35.00 and Student memberships, for students under age 25, are $ 20.00 per year. Dues are payable in full at the beginning of each calendar year.

A discount is available to new members who join the club after the first quarter of the calendar year. A new member who joins during the second quarter (April through June) receives a $5 dues discount. The dues discount when joining during the third quarter (July through September) is $10. Former club members who have let their membership lapse for two or more consecutive years are also eligible for the mid-year dues discounts when renewing their membership.

Notes:
  • All RARC repeaters use the club call sign WØMXW. The WØMXW trustee is Gil, WØMN.
  • The WØEAS/R repeater is owned and operated by Olmsted County Emergency Management. WØEAS is the repeater trustee.

Activities

Members of RARC participate in the following activities during each year: (Click on the activity title for additional information on each activity.)

ARRL Field Day

RARC participates in the ARRL Field Day event held in late June. Gasoline generators are used for electrical power for the weekend event. A picnic supper is typically held on Saturday evening at the field day site for RARC club members, families and friends.

Amateur Radio License Classes

The Rochester Amateur Radio Club conducts classes for individuals interested in obtaining an amateur radio license. Classes for the Novice and Technician class licenses are typically held in the fall and are administered through the Rochester Community Education organization.

VEC Exams

Examinations for amateur radio licenses are given four times a year by RARC VEC volunteers.

Public Service Events

RARC club members provide communication support to a number of area public service events during the year. The supported events include walkathons, bicycle races, marathons, RochesterFest parade, etc.

Emergency Services Support

RARC club members are active in local and area amateur radio emergency service (ARES) activities. The emergency service activities include supporting Olmsted County Office of Emergency Management and the National Weather Service.
