Radio Club Picnic Tues Aug 11 at Oxbow
RARC Picnic Aug 11 at Oxbow, 6:30pm:
Yes, it's been feeling more like September, but it is really August,
and time for our annual picnic. It will be at
Oxbow park
, north of
Byron, at the Second Bridge picnic pavilion. (This is the second one
you come to after you enter the park, which is the one near the zoo.
I'll put a sign of some sort at the turn off.) We'll have a grill running,
a limited assortment of soft drinks, and plates, cups, plastic utensils
and napkins. Bring something to pass, and any radio-related stuff you'd
like to show off.
CW Study Group starting:
"Study Group" is a better description than "Course". It will have
three components:
(1) The K7QO course. This is a set of mp3 files, which start from
the individual letters and increase in speed and complexity. You can
start wherever feels right for you, and progress at any pace.
(2) In-person meetings, where we will give each other
hand-holding, encouragement, and support, and practice sending and
receiving.
(3) On-air meetings, probably on 10 meters, starting on SSB and
moving to CW, on the same frequency -- so, a little different from the
usual slow-speed CW net.
The meetings, both in-person and on-air, will start as soon as more
than one person wants to start them. A couple of people are
interested, but don't want to start working yet (and it is work --
figure a half-hour practice every day). If you want to join in, let
me know, and I'll get materials to you. I'll have some CDs at the
picnic. As a study group, it's something anyone can join at any time.
