March 11 RARC President's Invitation and Update

The next Rochester Amateur Radio Club (RARC) monthly meeting is at 7 p.m. this coming Tuesday March 11th at the American Red Cross Building, 310 14th Street SE, in Rochester.

Happy March with the RARC!

Happy March everyone - winter is almost done...(power of positive thinking). My apologies for being largely incommunicado this week. I'm fighting a cold - and Saturday nite discovered the downside of descending a flight of stairs face first instead of feet first. I instantly felt greater empathy for KØRGR - as I am now working with the OMC orthopedic staff on a personal basis.

Onto the good stuff... We have so many exciting things happening, I hope I can get it all in!

The regular monthly club meeting for the RARC will be this coming Tuesday evening at 7pm at the Red Cross building. As usual, an informal dinner gathering of hams will take place prior to the meeting at John Hardy's on South Broadway at 5:30. This is a great opportunity for new hams and visitors to network and talk one-on-one with other hams. Hope to see you there!

The March program will be quite exciting.

  • KØMD (Scott) will be doing a presentation on his recent DXing activities, including the recent Caribbean DXpedition.
  • The Education Committee will be providing an update on School Stations.
  • KØQB, (Jay Bellows) from the ARRL Dakota Division will be present and discuss updates with the ARRL, and their participation with the RARC for the upcoming Expo.
  • A brief update on the Expo planning will be presented.
Please network ahead of the meeting date, and bring a guest or new ham along!

Our club membership has become more active in recent months, and attendance at monthly meetings has increased. These are both VERY encouraging. As a result of this forward motion, our meeting location is moving to the University Campus beginning April 2008. A handout with a map and pertinent details will be provided at the March meeting, and posted soon on the RARC website. RCTC is being incredibly gracious in donating the use of a 60 person 'intelligent classroom' to our organization because of the services our group provides our community.
A huge thanks to Stan, KDØBQ for making these arrangements. I'll be reaching out this week to Brenda Ziebell at the Red Cross to extend our gratitude for their longterm support of the RARC.

As Steve (WØSTV) mentioned on this week's Sunday evening net, it's time for Skywarn training again. It will be held on March 19th at 6:30pm at the Rochester Event Center. I encourage you to consider participating in Skywarn/weather reporting activities during the upcoming severe weather season.

Thanks to the many club members who regularly to make this club function well, and to those providing support for the Expo and school projects.

See you Tuesday!
