The next Rochester Amateur Radio Club (RARC) monthly
meeting is at 7 p.m. this coming Tuesday February 12th at the American Red Cross Building, 310 14th Street SE, in
Rochester.
President's Invitation and Update
Good day everyone!
I can't believe its meeting time again already! February's meeting will be held
at the usual time and place - the Red Cross building at 7pm. Please bring a
guest or new Ham, or invite a Ham from a neighboring club.
Anyone that cares to, may join an informal dinner gathering at John Hardy's
South at 5:30pm the night of the meeting. This is strictly social time for hams
to get to know one another better, brainstorm new ideas, or Elmer new Hams.
The program for the RARC February meeting will be threefold.
(a) The Expo committee will provide a progress update on the event. I would
encourage anyone who has an interest in helping with this event to approach an
Expo Chairperson at the meeting and discuss the current needs.
(b) Charlie Pederson WØTAX will give a short presentation on tax implications
on the volunteer work Ham Radio operators perform during the year. It's tax
season - so this might be beneficial to many of us.
(c) Jay Bellows is expected to present a Dakota Division ARRL update and
ideas for planning the Expo event in August.
Finally, we have some positive news to share. As I mentioned on the ARES Net
tonite, the informational website for the
Expo is up and running. Please
visit the site and provide any suggestions or feedback that you feel would
be beneficial. It's not yet complete, as we continue to make additions to the
various pages, exhibitors, forums, etc... Our Website Coordinator is
Robert Andrews, KØRDA - THANKS Robert for all your hard work and
attention to detail.
We are also proud to announce that the 2008 RARExpo in Rochester has been
designated the 2008 DAKOTA DIVISION CONVENTION. This is an honor for the RARC
as the sponsoring organization for the Expo, and a wonderful show of support
from ARRL for this event.
Just a reminder, please try to join the weekly Monday night 75 Meter Net at
8pm Central, where we will promote and discuss the Expo. It's a great way to
get the word out and catch the latest developments! Frequency is: 3.825Mhz.
Of further note, I will be announcing the Chairpersons for the standard RARC
Committees for 2008. (Public Service, Technical, ARES,
Field Day Task Force, and Education
Task Force). I have heard from a handful of members with interest
in the committees. This is your final opportunity for consideration to Chair
one of these committees, however, your participation as a committee member is
welcome as well! Please reach me by Tuesday noon if you wish to participate in
some fashion.
Looking forward to seeing you Tuesday evening!
