RARC June 12 meeting reminder and short note
|
The next Rochester Amateur Radio Club (RARC)
monthly meeting is at 7pm this coming
Tuesday June 12th at the American Red Cross Building, 310
14th Street SE, in Rochester.
The program will be a discussion on our
RARC Field Day (FD) Plans. More FD information
follows below.
All members are encouraged to bring a guest or
encourage a new licensee to attend (and bring
their radio and questions!)
Here are a couple of old and new business items
for discussion:
- Old business
I wanted to acknowledge those who
volunteered to be elmers/mentors on a
"New Hams" committee: Peter N8MHD, Bill
WMØWM, Fred K4IU, Scott KØMD, and yours
truly. We are still looking for other
experienced hams to be a part of this
group!!! Its main purpose is to:
- Get new hams on the air! Answer
questions, help them with their station
setups either home or mobile.
- Help in the schools to give demos to
potential programs at Schaefer Academy,
Century HS and out to the summer College
for Kids.
- Help with building simple HF dipoles
or 2m FM mobile whips including tuning
for low SWR. Some starter contesting and
basic DXing workshop tips.
- New business
- We are looking for a new RARC
webmaster. If you are interested but
unable to come to next Tuesday's meeting
please contact me. Thanks to Don ADØF,
who is now very involved in classes and
outside activities.
- Purchase a starter ham library for
Century HS. Doug Broeren.
- Any interest in a one month summer
VHF FM contest, similar to last summers?
Note this weekend June 9-10 is the
ARRL June VHF QSO Party.
- Please pass on any other new
business to Bill KØRGR prior to the
meeting.
We continue to have a few members pay
their dues - Thank you for supporting your
local club!
CQ CQ FIELD DAY - Many of you are aware
one of the major club events of the year is
Field Day/FD. This year it starts with setup
mid morning on Saturday June 23 with events
wrapping up after lunch on Sunday June 24.
This is a combined club social event
(particularly the Saturday evening pot luck for
families), contest to rack up a lot of contacts
& point multipliers, and most important a
training exercise for new hams on how to
operate "out in the field". Many thanks to the
FD committee who looked at many alternatives in
setups and operating options. We will again be
operating at Pat's NØADQ farm SW of Byron and
are looking for volunteers to help in many
areas. All should try to make the Tuesday
meeting to learn more and sign up for help and
operating times. In the meantime please read
the June QST with a special center section on
FD or see
ARRL Field Day
http://www.arrl.org/contests/rules/2007/fd.html
particularly the 7.3.x sections on extra
points. We plan to operate A class with SSB
voice, CW morse code and PSK31 digital plus a
VHF station and GOTA for new hams to get
experience.
