The next Rochester Amateur Radio Club (RARC) monthly meeting
is at 7pm this coming Tuesday July 10th at the American Red Cross Building, 310 14th Street
SE, in Rochester.
All members are encouraged to bring a guest or encourage a new
licensee to attend (and bring their radio and questions for any
on the New Hams committee to assist before the meeting!)
The program will be two parts:
- De-brief and re-cap Field Day events - a scoring summary if
it is available at that time. We might have a short slide show
too.
- Scott Wright - KØMD will give a short presentation on
radio activities in China from his recent trip.
Here are a some old and new business items for discussion:
- Old business
This is a continuation of discussion on the College for Kids
program where we need a few ham volunteers to stop by RCTC for an
hour or so Tues Aug 7- Fri Aug10 and work with ham instructor
Jerry Nau on some simple ham radio demos or short 5-10 minute
talks. We need to get names to Jerry at or shortly after this
July 10 RARC meeting.
- New business
- Discuss the August 14 RARC picnic, time and location - which
includes a foxhunt activity that ABØBW and KCØWIP have
put together. Simple handhelds work (you do not need fancy
directional antennas!).
- Please pass on any other new business to Bill KØRGR prior
to the meeting.
We still continue to have a few members pay their dues - Thank
you for supporting your local club!
73s 2007 FIELD DAY - Wow! Incredible WX and great
participation. Expect to hear more on results at the July
meeting. Many THANKS to all our volunteers and operators. Please
continue to thank the businesses that donated supplies to our
Field Day event - our web site has details. Just in the past week
I have patronized Subway east of IBM, Panera NW and today Famous
Daves where the management appreciates hearing how we enjoyed
their "goodies". Be sure to check out our RARC web site for a
great set of photos. Daryl ACØID is doing a super job on
keeping our web site interesting and up to date. Oh yes, speaking
of internet info ... some of you may remember the DVD the late
John Reed KØKTY was putting together. Niel WØVLZ has
posted some of these videos on YouTube, if you have a high speed
connection see http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=rarchams.
One last item, I got a note right before Field Day and will post
most of it here in case anyone remembers this former RARC
member/officer from the 60s:
Dave Thomas, ex KØUKU: I stumbled across
RARC's web site tonight and was excited to see that RARC is still
operating. I got my ticket back in the late 50s and was VP of
RARC and three time Canoe Derby chairperson in the early 60s. I
still have my three trophy canoe paddles from those days. I was
also the second EC for the PICONET after Milt Miller, WØTJA,
quit. While I was in the Air Force, I forgot to renew my license,
so I became ex KØUKU :-( I didn't see any of my old pals on
the membership list, but I saw some in the history. If anyone
remembers me, tell them I said hello, and if anyone wants to get
in touch with me, they can email eshdave@aol.com
