The annual Rochester Amateur Radio Club (RARC) Picnic
will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday August 14th at Oxbow Park, 5731 County Rd 105 NW,
Byron, MN.
The next Rochester Amateur Radio Club monthly meeting is at 6pm this
coming Tuesday Aug 14. The meeting will be our annual picnic, this year
held a few miles west of Rochester or north of Byron depending on your
reference point at Oxbow park. All members are encouraged to bring a
guest or encourage a new licensee to attend as we work towards setting
up clubs in some local high schools and and upcoming license class and
VEC test in September. The evening's events are typically two parts -
first our picnic followed by a -short- business meeting, and then ...
some fun events.
KariAnn will bring a grill, but if we have any other volunteers with
grills please contact her. The meal is typically bring some meat to
grill and a dish to pass. Get creative; how about some -HAM- dishes like
scallop potatoes with ham, macaroni salad w/ham & cheese, ham 'n beans,
ham rollup appetizers? Those not fond of cooking can bring chips,
cookies, or pickles. Please bring your own plates/utensils as well and
while we may have a cooler and some sodas along, if you want a special
kind of soda like diet no caffeine, you may want to bring that too.
Here is the latest info from vice president KariAnn:
I am shooting for the second picnic shelter, and will make several signs to
direct people there. We should use the .82 repeator for the talk in.
Please suggest that everyone bring their foxhunting gear and walking
shoes/hiking boots. Yes, I believe even an 2m HT will help, as the activity
is based on teams .. and HT's will enable the team members to communicate
amongst themselves. [I recall from a past program there is a way to fox hunt
using a 2m HT receiver & antenna nulls! - KØVH]
We might like to suggest people bring their digital cameras if they'd like
to catch some of the beautiful scenery or activities, or bring an outdoor
game like bocce ball, frisbee, or horseshoes, if they like.
I think it would be nice if we all made an attempt to bring a guest who may
be interested in Ham Radio!
Two more notes from KØVH:
-
If any of you want to bring along HF QRP or other radios please do
so, especially if the weather cooperates. As always some of us who have
volunteered to advise new hams on operating or technical topics & should
have plenty of time that night to chat. And you probably want some bug
spray just in case they are out in the woods where we wander to "find
the fox". If you do not know what foxhunting is, it's not the British
style with horses and dogs, but look at these Radio Direction Finding links
