Amateur Radio Classes
The Rochester Amateur Radio Club offers amateur radio classes
for
individuals interested in obtaining the entry Technician license and
the more advanced General license.
Technician
Ham Radio Class
|
The RARC technician ham radio class meets on a Saturday, from
8:00 am to 5:00 pm prior to a VE test session. The class covers all
topics needed to pass the entry level Technician written Element 2
examination.
Knowledge of Morse Code is NOT required for any Amateur Radio license
now.
The class uses the ARRL Ham Radio
License Manual publication as a study guide plus a set of
Powerpoint charts and materials specifically developed for the class.
Class sessions are held at the American Red
Cross building, 310 14th Street SE, in Rochester.
Students should purchase the class textbook, The ARRL Ham
Radio License Manual, before
attending the class. The book can be obtained from a number of sources
including the ARRL
web site, Barnes and Noble, or Amazon.com.
The class fee is $25. The fee also includes copies of the
presentation and review materials. A CDROM of the lecture materials is
also provided. The class fee will be collected at the start of class.
The
last technician ham radio class was held on April 16 2011, and
April 23 2011. The next technician ham radio class will be held two
consecutive Saturdays on October 22, 2011, and October 29, 2011.
Prospective students should contact class coordinator Bill Osler at
least 2 weeks prior to the class.
Bill prefers to be contacted at the RARC mailing
list on Yahoo!
, or at 507-252-5852.
Additional information is provided in the following links:
An amateur radio class for hams interested in obtaining the
General license was offered on March 3 and 10, 2007, in Rochester. The
class fee was $45. This class covered all topics needed to pass the
General written examination (Element 3) . The ARRL General License
Manual, 6th Edition was used for the class along with a set of
Powerpoint charts and materials developed for the two day class.
Because of the new rule change, Morse code (element 1) is no longer
needed as of Feburary 23th, 2007. So, this is the prefect time to
upgrade and gain true HF coverage.
